We get it: you watch other people on rollercoasters and see how much of a good time they’re having. It looks like the most fun thing in the world. And as much as you also want to be up on that ride, having the time of your life, there’s just one thing holding you back: nerves!
It’s actually normal to get a bit scared before going on amusement rides. It’s part of the reason why people love them so much – you get a little nervous beforehand, and then you actually do it, have an awesome time, and feel proud of yourself for conquering your initial fear.
But how do we get from the point of gulping nervously and looking up at a rollercoaster in fear, to the point of feeling on top of the world for having ridden it? Here, your hype-team at Advanced Amusements psych you up and give you some tips on how to swallow fear before getting on an amusement ride.
Ask to be seated
It can help to know where you want to sit and ask the ride operator if you can be seated there. Some people find it more comforting to sit at the front so they can see everything, and others think the total opposite.
Bring a buddy
It often helps to go on an amusement ride with a friend or family member so that you’re more at ease. But it’s important you tell them how you’re feeling, and how they can help! Some friends and family think it’s best to treat you overly sensitively when you’re waiting in line for a rollercoaster… and that can be straight up annoying, which doesn’t help anything. Just tell them how you want to be supported, whether that involves normal conversation to keep your mind off things, gentle words of support, or no talking whatsoever.
Think about the reward
Have you seen those cryptocurrency ads with Matt Damon? If you haven’t, don’t worry – you’re not missing out on much. But there’s one line Mr Damon says that you could probably benefit from hearing: fortune favours the brave! Think about the fortunes to be reaped from going on that rollercoaster. You’re going to be overcoming a fear, gaining a sense of pride, and having a whole load of fun all at the same time. That’s a fortune in our eyes!
Remember how safe rollercoasters are
Amusement rides are incredibly safe. There’s a 1 in 16 million chance of being injured on a rollercoaster. That’s how safe they are!
