Behind the Scenes: How Amusement Rides Are Set Up and Operated

Transporting the rides

Transporting the rides is the first step – surprisingly, they don’t just magically appear on their own. At Advanced Amusements, we transport all of our rides by specialised trucks which are customised for ride transportation. We transport these rides all over Victoria, conducting town shows in Geelong, Swan Hill, Mildura, Echuca, Gippsland and beyond.

Preparing the grounds

Then, we need to get the grounds ready for the deployment of the rides. This involves clearing the area of debris and making sure we have a clear access route for the rides.

Deployment and set-up

Then, we start deploying the rides and start the set-up process. Our professionals get to work, making sure everything is set-up to the manufacturer’s standards. When you set-up and pack down the same amusement rides about 50 times per year like we do, you become quite the expert at it!

Testing and safety checks

Now it’s time to start our rigorous testing and safety checks. Every ride must be tested multiple times in order to make sure it’s 100% safety to ride before we open it up to riders. We also use specialised techniques and equipment to test for ride anomalies which could result in an error. Our team conducts safety checks to the relevant Australian Standards AS3533.1-4 which provide a guideline on design and construction, operation and maintenance and in-service inspections of amusement rides.

Operation

Now that your amusement rides have been set up and safety checked, the fun begins! Each ride always has a designated operator who is constantly monitoring the ride and making sure everything is running smoothly. Occasionally, two operators will be designated to one ride.

Pack down

And after all the fun has been had, it’s time for us to pack down each amusement ride, load them back onto the trucks and head off to the next job.
